INFORMATION
→ A police force?
While Exsilium didn't have one to begin with, as of September 3312 the citizens have been quietly finishing the process of putting one together, complete with their own station. They put up flyers recruiting people interested in helping, which is how Barnaby (the first Inspector) came to discover them and make an IC announcement about this.
In any case, while the force is largely made up of locals, they agreed to allow for a transport-only unit, which is under the supervision of an NPC played by the lovely
oceanwrath by the name of Thomas Sorenstam. The basic idea is that while this group will need to follow orders from him and do things like patrols and investigating NPC crimes and such, they'll have a fair bit of autonomy to keep an eye on transport-specific problems and to work out their internal ranking system.
→ What happens if my character wants to sign up?
There'll be paperwork to do at the station, and there'll also be testing to ensure that the people put on the force are decent people and not about to go undermining the rules or system. Everyone will get put through a training as well so they can all be on the same page. And they will be paid! 200 marques a month. It is unlikely people will get turned away! The police force needs people and is willing to train them, so the only reasons someone would get turned down is if they are known to have committed crimes, fail training or the psych evals, or conduct in a manner unbecoming an officer. (Even that last one would get an investigation rather than an outright boot.)
Please note: training will be mandatory and nobody will be let out into the field until they have satisfied their superiors as to their ability to defend themselves if attacked, use a weapon, and perform adequately under pressure. They do not have to have this ability before joining up, but if they don't there will be a reasonable amount of time until they're allowed to do more than desk work and training.
→ Is the Initiative involved in this?
SURE ARE. They're helping fund this whole thing! Thom is also, unlike most random civilians, pretty aware of them and has a contact with them and generally likes them.
→ Are there jails? Laws? Just what are they enforcing?
There are jails! Some are adjoining to the station, which will be monitored by both NPCs and PCs, and there are some in the Initiative Hold (which have been around). At the moment, they're primarily focused on dealing with existing crime (things like theft or murder which are fairly universally Not Okay) in the city - which isn't very common but does happen.
→ How does the ranking work?
Upon the disappearance of Inspector Barnaby & his two sergeants, there was no official chain of command for a short time before Roslyn Small became Detective Chief Inspector. Most members of the force are Police Constables. Promotion to Sergeant comes with time and experience and will be somewhat limited. Plainclothes detectives use Detective before their rank, though they have the same power and authority as someone of the same rank without the title of Detective. Most officers are not Detectives because the standard uniformed police officer is needed more and there aren't a great deal of mysteries!
→ Is there a uniform? Do we carry weapons?
Yes. Yes there is. It looks like the current British police uniform. Policemen are issued a standard service pistol as well as baton and discouraged from using any other weapons while on duty. Using a gun while on duty will result in paperwork for your character, and repeatedly doing so is going to get them looked at carefully, so keep that in mind!
→ What's the station like?
It's walking distance from the Hold, and looks like this, if more run-down and with the y missing :( It's around three stories tall and houses all of the police, including the NPC officers and related people (who, it's worth remembering, vastly outnumber the transports)! The first floor houses administrative offices, and Thom's is on the second floor, and as there are only ~20 offices in total, there's plenty of sharing. The Transport Department shares a small section of the building to the back, mostly cubicle spaces and tables. There are only three real offices in their space, one used by the Chief Inspector and the other two used by the Sergeants.
→ We're on the moon! What does this mean for the police force?
Mostly just three things! One: there is no immediate Native oversight of the force and as such there is no pay, no organizational structure really, no paperwork, no uniforms& no officially issued weapons (unless you happened to bring yours with you). Two: they don't have official offices anymore. Roslyn has commandeered a small room (we're talking very small) in which she's dumped a couple desks and shelves, and that is the police force base. Mostly it will be empty, as she doesn't care where you are so long as if you're on duty you respond to calls forwarded through the police line. Three: the police force as it currently stands is almost solely reactionary, since there are so few of them. They are also all occupied with other things as well, so essentially they're just acting as some kind of a buffer between everything and total lawlessness.
→ My character doesn't want to be a police officer, but does work as something affiliated (private investigator, attorney, security, underground connection, technical support, morgue work, vigilantes, anything and everything). Can they be involved?
We'd love to have a roster of people the police force can call on for assistance! Please do fill out the form and let us know so we can contact you if your character would be likely to get involved in something.
→ How do I sign up?
Fill out the information below, track this post, and you're done! (Affiliates don't need to track that post but can if they want to.)

Training / Experience:
Anything Else: Oracle is a vigilante who, usually, does her best to work with the police department, mostly through anonymous tips. The information she chooses to leave might well be calculated, though; she's not above manipulating police if it suits her.
Also, spy on the station if possible. (Don't take it personally she spies on everyone.)

Experience: He's been a hero for at least two years prior to arriving in Exsilium, which is essentially kind of a special ops force but glamorized and commercialized to hell and back that handles the bigger and more new grabbing crimes like robberies and chasing after dangerous fugitives.
Anything Else: Has been on the force since Feb 2013. And he's content to stay an officer as long as he gets to be on the field and not holed up in a cubicle.

Anything Else: Jaime is your run-of-the-mill vigilante who will stop crime if he sees it and then hand the criminal over to the police. He's typically on good terms with them provided they're okay with having a vigilante around.

Training / Experience: Tim got all of his training done when he was on active duty in Afghanistan. He's a former Army Ranger with sniping experience to boot. He also has well over two years current experience working as a U.S. Marshal, so he knows how to track down fugitives, do tons and tons of paperwork and other things associated with identifying and apprehending criminals. Tim is disciplined, so he's never been out of practice.
Anything Else: If he could do very little paperwork, he would enjoy that immensely.

Training / Experience:Anything Else: Philip is a super genius and Shotaro is
an idiota capable private detective in his own right! They work best together, however, as they're a "two-in-one" detective who can share a brain on top of being superheroes. Shotaro is a wannabe Philip Marlowe so he'll be a shit about working for ~the man~, but they can be trusted to do their level best.no subject

Training / Experience: Wes went through the police academy. He worked in Missing Persons for a while before being bumped to Robbery/Homicide. The timeline is kind of unclear but he's been a cop for at least 7 years.
Anything Else: He also went to law school and practiced law for a while.

Date: 2013-11-20 08:13 am (UTC)Joining As: Police force
Training / Experience: Roughly 10 years being an LAPD officer, having worked both in the Narcotics Division and on the Vice Squad. For the past five years he's been a detective in the Robbery-Homicide Division.
He is one of the most decorated officers within the LAPD, and holds the highest number of arrests in Robbery-Homicide.
Anything Else: He's a little unconventional when it comes to the Law, using reverse psychology to have suspects cave and give them the information he wants, and bending a rule or two - but the bottom line is he hates when bad guys get away with crap.

Date: 2013-07-27 09:32 pm (UTC)Joining As: Affiliated: LEGAL COUNSEL WOO WOO
Training / Experience: Saul is a criminal defense attorney who had his own (very successful, but super sketchy) practice back home. He has a ton of experience and an abundance of legal know-how and also has plans to help set up a legal system within Exsilium at some point, somehow, so he'll likely need to coordinate with the authorities.
Anything Else: Dude usually doesn't play very nicely with law enforcement because he likes to take shortcuts/be a jerkass. But he might make an exception here! ...maybe! (Though it might not be very likely, after what he learned about Jesse Pinkman's "trial." idk. We'll see.)

Anything Else: Signing up as a consultant. He'd probably start off by crashing an investigation and pointing out everything the police missed and then follow them around until it's solved.

Date: 2013-07-28 04:38 pm (UTC)Joining As: Affiliated | Vigilante / bounty hunter
Training / Experience: Natus is well experienced in apprehending and taking down entire nests of bandits or their mage equivalent, Dark Guilds. He has also gone against the main figures of evil organizations and emerged victorious from most of those encounters. This is offset however by his rather destructive nature which sometimes manifests itself without him really intending it. So that would probably be best kept in mind should the police decide to contact him.
Anything Else: He's decided to join since he is just about fed up with other transports attacking his important friends in this place so at the very least his loyalty will be unquestionable towards the force as long as they don't become corrupt along the way. The moment he detects corruption or something going against his principles he will be out.

Date: 2013-07-30 12:44 am (UTC)Joining As: Police force
Training / Experience: He's been a fully trained Soul Reaper for over 100 years, a Captain in Soul Society for roughly 50 years and was a prodigy in his year at the Academy, having graduated top of the class in every subject(all of which related to combat; sword fighting, hand to hand combat, etc).
Being a soul reaper entails maintaining order in Soul Society by defeating corrupt spirits known as Hollows and paperwork too! So he's fully suited for the role.
It was essentially ghost police academy.
